Energy Market Intelligence Analyst


The Market Intelligence Analyst plays a key role within the Marketing Analysis and New Business Development (MANBD) department, delivering timely, high-impact intelligence/news on global oil markets and the broader energy sector. The position supports commercial and strategic decision-making by identifying geopolitical, economic, and policy developments that shape global energy dynamics.

A core responsibility is the preparation of the department’s Daily News Report, a critical internal publication that provides audiences with a clear, concise view of worldwide energy developments. This requires the ability to filter large volumes of global information, distilling what is most relevant and impactful to interested parties.
    
The role sits at the centre of the department’s marketing intelligence capability, ensuring that developments affecting supply, demand, trade flows, and energy policy are captured, assessed, and communicated in a timely manner.

Beyond news monitoring, the analyst contributes to broader analytical work, supporting research initiatives, internal reports, and presentations, and developing charts and visual materials that help communicate insights effectively.

This role is ideally suited to an intellectually curious individual with a strong interest in global affairs and the energy industry. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgement, analytical rigor, and the ability to identify emerging trends that matter.

The position offers a unique opportunity to build deep expertise in global oil industry while contributing directly to the organisation’s market understanding and strategic positioning.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor global news, policy developments, and economic indicators throughout the day to identify developments relevant to crude oil industry and the wider energy sector.
  • Analyse and synthesise information from a wide range of international sources, highlighting developments with potential implications for oil industry and global energy dynamics.
  • Compile and structure the department’s Daily News Report, ensuring relevant developments are clearly summarised, prioritised, and communicated to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop awareness of how geopolitical developments, economic trends, and policy changes influence global crude oil markets, identifying emerging themes and developments worth monitoring
  • Ensure news coverage and analysis contribute meaningfully to the department’s broader market intelligence and research activities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide research and analytical support to the MANBD department on developments affecting oil industry and the wider energy sector.
  • Assist in the preparation and updating of internal marketing/industry reports, briefing materials, and analytical outputs.
  • Maintain and update marketing/industry tracking spreadsheets, data sources, and internal research materials.
  • Contribute to the development of charts, graphs, and infographics used in internal presentations and market/industry reports.
  • Provide occasional support or cover for colleagues involved in report compilation and data monitoring.
  • Assist with gathering background information and supporting materials for research projects and market analysis.

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent qualification. 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital research tools.
  • Demonstrated interest in global affairs, geopolitics, and international economic developments.
  • Strong curiosity about the drivers shaping oil and energy markets.
  • Ability to identify relevant information from large volumes of news and data sources.
  • Strong research, organisational, and information-gathering skills.
  • Excellent written communication and summarisation abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
